Knowing the input AC power cord

Many products with ac power cords have a standard ac inlet at the product chassis into which the power cord is connected. The AC power cord is used to connect electronic equipment (mostly is the wall outlet) to the power supply. It is an important consideration when selecting a suitable AC power cord for your electronic equipment. The following are key specifications to helps ensure that the AC power cord is compatible with your device and provides the appropriate power in a safe and reliable way.
Wire gauge - it is an important consideration because thicker wires can handle more current and are unlikely to overheat.
Voltage -  voltage and current are another two crucial specifications, because they determines the power that the power cord can safely supply to the device. Selecting a AC power cord with a low rated voltage and current of the device may cause insufficient power supply, while selecting a AC power cord with a high rated voltage and current may not be safe.
Length - the length of the wire is a factor as well because some devices need longer wire to reach the wall outlet, but it may be less efficient and more prone to voltage drop.
Plug - it is also important specifications to consider, because using the wrong plug type AC power cord may cause dangerous or invalid connection.
