Knowing the components of wall-mount and desktop type switching power supply

A power supply, also known as an adapter or charger, is a device that converts alternating current (AC) from a wall socket to direct current (DC), which can be used to power electronic devices. The power supply usually consists of the following components:
Input plug - it’s the part connected to the wall socket and receiving AC power. The most common AC input plug type of wall-mounted adapter includes American, European, British and Australian. The desktop adapter needs to transmit voltage and current through an AC power cord.
PCB (printed circuit board) - it is the support of electronic components, on which there are metal conductors as the circuit connecting electronic components, also known as printed circuit board.
Passive component - refers to electronic components that consume but do not generate energy; includes resistor, capacitor, inductor, transformer, diode, filter
(1) Resistor: is the component to block the passage of current
(2) Capacitor: is a component to store electrical energy in an electric field
(3) Inductor: it will generate electromotive force due to the change of the passing current, thus resisting the change of the current
(4) Transformer: responsible for converting the input AC voltage into a lower DC voltage that can be used by the equipment, e.g. convert 120VAC from wall socket to 19.5VDC to charge laptop computer FRA065 series is applicable for charging laptop computer
(5) Diode: it has two terminals, anode and cathode, and the current can only flow in a single direction
(6) Filter: this component filters out all remaining AC components and smooth DC voltage to ensure its stability
Active component - functions by relying on external inputs such as trigger, mechanical movement; includes rectifier, transistor, voltage regulator
(1) Rectifier: it is a component that converts AC voltage into DC voltage
(2) Transistor: it is a solid state semiconductor device similar to a valve, which can be used for amplification, switching, voltage stabilization, signal modulation
Voltage regulator - it controls the output voltage to ensure that it is within the specification range required by the powered equipment.
Output cable - it is a DC power cord which is electrical cable used to connect DC devices and plug, jack or other type of connector.
Output connector - it is connected to the equipment being powered. It can be a plug, jack or other type of connector.
External case - its material can be PVC or metal, which protects the internal components and provides a safe and reliable shell for the equipment.
These are the main parts of the power adapter, but the specific composition may vary depending on the design and application of the device.
