DC power cord has a variety of specifications to meet the specific power requirements of different electronic devices. It is an important consideration when selecting a suitable DC power cord for your electronic equipment. The following are key specifications to helps ensure that the DC power cord is compatible with your device and provides the appropriate power in a safe and reliable way.
Wire gauge - it indicates the thickness of the wire in the DC power line. The thicker wires can handle more current and are unlikely to overheat. However, thicker ones are more difficult to use and costs are higher. Most common wire gauge of FranMar adapter are 14AWG, 16AWG and 18AWG.
Voltage -  it indicates the amount of voltage that the DC power line can handle. If the voltage of DC cord is too low for the device, it may not work properly. Conversely, if the voltage is too high, it may not be safe to use.
Current -  it indicates the amount of current that the DC power line can handle.  If the current of DC cord is too low for the device, it may not work properly. Conversely, if the current is too high, it may not be safe to use.
Polarity - it indicates the direction of the positive and negative conductors of the DC power line.  Connecting the power cord with wrong polarity may damage the equipment. Be sure to carefully check the polarity of the equipment and select the power cord.
Connector - The connector is used to connect the DC power cable to the receiving device, which can be in the form of barrel, mini USB, Molex, snap and lock type.
